Declutter slowly and keep what earns its place

The one-box, one-season method that actually sticks.

The dramatic one-weekend purge feels wonderful and rarely lasts. Things drift back because the habits that produced them never changed.

A gentler method works better: one box by the door, and anything you have not reached for by the end of a season goes in it. No agonising, no before-and-after photos.

What remains is not a minimalist showroom. It is a house of things that earn their keep, which is a far nicer place to live than an empty one.
